Discussion thoughts...
Listed above are a few scriptures from the old
testament showing that the Holy Spirit has always existed. Some scholars
seem to suggest that the Holy Spirit did not exist until the day of Pentecost...
the scholars need to be a little more specific and say
that the Holy Spirit, that lives forever in man after he is saved and receives
the Holy Spirit, did not exist until the day of Pentecost!
Various forms of the "Spirit" did exist in man before Pentecost... notice in
Exodus 31:1-3 that Bezalel was filled with the Spirit of God in wisdom...
this was not the "Holy Spirit" of Pentecost, this was a temporary spirit of
wisdom that Bezalel needed for his work.
Other forms of the "Spirit" were given to people for various reasons... some for
wisdom, some for prophesying, some for writing, etc. ---
none of those who received the "Spirit" received the "Holy Spirit" of Pentecost
because Jesus did not decree that the "Holy Spirit" be given to man until just
before his Crucifixion. And, none of the old testament "Spirits" were
permanent... they were bestowed for a specific purpose and then expired!

My Beliefs...
The "Holy Spirit" has existed from the beginning when God created the heavens and the Earth as stated in Genesis 1:1-2.
The "Holy Spirit" was not given to mankind until the day of Pentecost... other "Spirits" of a temporary nature were bestowed by God to people for temporary purposes as discussed above.
How does all this fit in the "trinity"... an age old picture used in many sources shows the trinity in a drawing form as shown on the right... 3 distinct beings... God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit... the Father is not the son or the Holy Spirit, etc.
