Ecclesiastes 7:12... For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

Matthew 6:19-21...  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:24...
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.
Matthew 6:25-34... “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 15:18-20... But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.  For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.  These are what defile a person.  But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”
Matthew 19:21-26... Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”  When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.  And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.  Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”  When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”  But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Mark 4:19...
But the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
Mark 8:36...
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
Luke 12:15... And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

1st Timothy 3:1-3... The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.  Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrel-some, not a lover of money.
1st Timothy 6:6-10... But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.  But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be  content.  But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.  It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1st Timothy 6:17...
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?
James 5:1-6...
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.  Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten.  Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire.  You have laid up treasure in the last days.  Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.  You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence.  You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.  You have condemned and murdered the righteous person.  He does not resist you.
1st John 2:15-17... Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.  And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Discussion thoughts...
(1) 1st Timothy 6:10 is the verse most commonly quoted when discussing that money is the root of evil... verse 6:10 says "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils"... the problem is that the verse is frequently misquoted as "money is the root of all evil"... this
misquoting of the verse has an enormous impact on the meaning of the verse!!!  1st Timothy 6:10 is very clear that MONEY
IS NOT THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL... THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!!

(2) Numerous verses in the bible point out having money is not a problem...
Deuteronomy 8:18 points out that God gives us the power to get wealth!  Zephaniah 3:20... explains that those who seek refuge in the name of the Lord will have their fortunes restored. Proverbs 3:9-10 tells us to honor the Lord with our wealth, that our barns will be filled with plenty, and our vats will be bursting with wine.  Proverbs 11:24-25 tells us that when we give freely, we will grow all the richer, and whoever brings blessing will be enrichedProverbs 14:23 tells us when we toil there will be profit.  Proverbs 19:17 tells us that whoever is generous to the poor will be repayed by the Lord.  Proverbs 21:5 tells us that whoever is diligent will surely be paid in abundance.  Proverbs 28:15 tells us that the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.  Proverbs 28:20 tells us that a faithful man will abound with blessings.  Matthew 6:25-34 tells us that when we seek first the kingdom of God our needs will be provided by God. 1st Timothy 6:17 tells us that God richly provides us with everything to enjoy... these are a few verses that point out the wealth in itself is not a problem... the problem result when we have a "LOVE OF MONEY"... see the next paragraph.

(3) Numerous verses in the bible point out that the Love of Money is a problem...
Proverbs 11:24-25 points out that when one withholds what he should give, they will suffer want.  Proverbs 14:23 points out mere talk without toil tends only to poverty.  Proverbs 21:5 tells us that everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.  Proverbs 28:20 tells us that who- ever hastens to be rich will be punished.  Ecclesiastes 5:10 tell us that he who loves money will not be satisfied with money, and that he who loves wealth will be satisfied with his income (this is called vanity).  Matthew 6:24 tells us that no one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money... (what this says is that you cannot love money and love God).  Luke 16:13-14 says the same thing as Matthew 6:24... You cannot serve God and money. 1st Timothy 6:6-10 (read 6-10 above) it says that those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.

(4) So... how do we solve this problem of MONEY?  Money is not the problem... the problem is the "Love of Money"   The answer is simple... avoid the love of money!  Hebrews 13:5 says keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.  Matthew 6:25-34 tells us that when we seek first the kingdom of God our needs will be provided by God.  Luke 12:15 explains that one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

My Beliefs... Money and or the love of money is a difficult subject...
there is nothing wrong with money, in and of itself, or the possession of money.  However, when money begins to control us, that’s when trouble starts... with a little effort it is possible to make money evil or wonderful!  Lack of money can lead a person to theft and all kinds of crime... numerous scriptures explain that having an excess of money could make it difficult to serve God!  My beliefs are best described in 1st Timothy 6:6-10 and Matthew 6:25-34... if we have enough money for food, clothing, shelter and enough to share with those in need, why would we need any more than that!
