Biblical References...

God. The Lord will
not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
Psalm 19:14...
Let the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock
and my Redeemer.
Proverbs 18:21...

the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Matthew
12:34-37...
You brood of vipers, how
can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks
out of that which fills the heart. The good man brings out of
his good treasure what is good; and the
evil
man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. But I tell you
that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an
accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you
will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 15:11...
It is not what enters into the
mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this
defiles the man.
Matthew 15:18...
But the things that proceed out of
the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.
Luke 6:45...
The good man out of
the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil
man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth
speaks from that which fills his heart.
Ephesians 4:29...
Let no
unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is
good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it
will give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 5:4...
and there must be no filthiness and
silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather
giving of thanks.
Colossians 3:8...
But now you also, put them all aside:
anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.
James 1:26...
If anyone thinks himself to be
religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own
heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
James 3:8-10...
But no one can tame the tongue; it
is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our
Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the
likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.
My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.
James 5:12...
But above all, my brethren, do not
swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your
yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under
judgment.
Discussion
thoughts...
(1)
Most people do not
use profanity in normal conversations but these same people sometimes
use profanity to emphasis a statement.
(2) Even Christians are "tricked" into using bad expressions when they
are upset, when they use "take-offs" of the Lord's name such as
"Geeze" (short for Jesus), and "Lordy" (Lord), and other
more vulgar slang terms... read Exodus 20:7
above! Using these "slang" names is clearly using the Lords name
in vain! And the guy who says "Oh my God, I got the job"...
another example of using the Lords name in vain!
(3) Matthew 15:18 says it very clearly...
what comes out of the man's mouth comes from the heart... if a man
speaks profanity, his heart is not right with God!
(4) All of the scriptures quoted above explain clearly that profanity
defiles a person and is not what God expects!
My
Beliefs...
Another quick study...
Psalm 19:14 says it clearly with a verse
that we are very familiar with... the other scriptures are all saying
the same thing in different ways...
if the
words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart are acceptable to
God, we will achieve the Kingdom of Heaven!!!
